After seeing a quarter midget in a garage in 1956, I found out about the sport of Quarter Midget racing, and since we were looking for something to do as a family with two children ages 3 and 4, I spent most of the next year developing and building a safe car for them to drive. We joined the Hayward Quarter Midget Racing Assn. In 1957 and so began our career.

We continued to build cars and develop new ideas with safer chassis. Along with car building, we also concentrated on driver safety by developing a training program that was picked up by other clubs and is used throughout the quarter midget world. In 1964, when I was elected Q.M.A. President, my goal was to establish an annual Grand National Championship Race, which we did, along with setting up a national insurance program and driver training classes nationwide.
